Darsombra
- Eternal Jewel CD
Darsombra is Brian Daniloski
Eternal
Jewel, the second full-length album from Baltimore’s Brian
Daniloski is a mix of improvised and structured recordings primarily
composed on the baritone guitar. The tracks are best described
as equal parts doom, psychedelic experimentation and 20th Century
composition. From powerful and doom-drenched sections to minimal
and shimmering to aggressive rhythms that sound like a pounding
string section, Eternal Jewel is some of the strongest material
yet from darsombra.
The packaging for this release features letter-pressed metallic
silver ink on thick black gatefold sleeve (printed by Portland’s
Stumptown
Printers.) The two inner pockets contain the disc on one side
and two new stunning art pieces from artist/package designer Stephen
Kasner on the opposite side. Packaging images: Outside

"Simply glorious, it's Riley or Reich from a psychdronedoom
perspectiveÖ Imagine Expo '70 cloaked in black, performing a
seance with Tony Conrad and Lustmord, and you'll have an idea
of how much we must like this!"- Aquarius Records
(Record of the week: September 20, 2008)
"Eternal Jewel is definitely one of the finest discs I've ever heard in this genre of music. Brian Daniloski has pieced together one hell of a shimmering gem of improvised guitar atmospherics, and one which will absolutely captivate the listener. This disc still reverberates long into the night and well after the music is over." - Sea of Tranquility
"There's a simplicity to the album's sound that is deceptive; by allowing things to remain uncluttered, the appearance of minimal (but still evolving) motifs become far more important than they would be in a more conventionally song-oriented environment. The album's overall sound is one of meditative, radiant transcendence; it's not just music to zone out to, but music with a deeply emotional core." - Dead Angel
"Darsombra takes the multiple overdubbing of guitar drones to near
orchestral extremes. On "Auguries" and "Night's Black Agents," his stacked guitar lines hover and tremble like strings, the complex weaving and reweaving of their opppressive cluster chords more reminiscent of Penderecki or Gorecki than any obvious metal reference points. "Drops of Sorrow" uses the brief starburst sound of overtone harmonics to build a shimemring space you might expect in Steve Reich or Terry Riley. " - WIRE
"Darsombra strikes pure gold with this record... Ecdysis toyed with melodic overtones to great effect and Eternal Jewel embraces them with open arms, making for a sound both wrathful and uplifting." - Hellride Music
