Dälek - Abandoned
Language
The latest full-length from Dälek is their most ambient
and mellow record to date, but composition-wise their most complex.
It's kinda like Morton Feldman pieces laid over Fat Joe beats.
And "mellow" for Dalek is still pretty fucking heavy, so you will
not be disappointed if you prefer their noisier discs. Released
by the mighty Ipecac with fucking amazing artwork from Paul Romano.
The double vinyl (released by Ernest Jennings) is simply gorgeous.
A sepia-toned version of the CD album art with a clear gloss overlay
of a second design. And the vinyl itself is black and white splatter.

Dälek/DS/Oddateee
- Deadverse Massive
The Deadverse Massive 12" picture disc brings together three
intense forces in music-- avant hip-hop unit, Dœlek, ambient guitarist,
Destructo Swarmbots and hip-hop madman, Oddateee. Spontaneity,
open-mindedness to the recording process and a collective cohesiveness
sprung forth an album that none of them would have every created
alone and none of them would have imagined before the moment of
creation. Easily, the strangest record any of these artists have
ever touched. Artwork from the amazing Paul Romano rounds out
the release. |

Darsombra - Ecdysis
The debut release from Brian Daniloski's (Meatjack, Trephine)
latest solo outing and it's a monster. Crushing, ethereal doom
intertwined with delicate guitar work and outright disturbing
and awkward field recordings from Daniloski's ghetto neighborhood.
And if that's not enough, the album closes with an insane cover
of "dies irae", the closing theme music from The Shining.
Highly recommended! Released by At A Loss with beautiful artwork
by PG compadre, Stephen Kasner. |

Darsombra - Eternal
Jewel
Eternal Jewel, the second full-length album from Baltimore’s
Brian Daniloski is a mix of improvised and structured recordings
primarily composed on the baritone guitar. The tracks are best
described as equal parts doom, psychedelic experimentation and
20th Century composition. From powerful and doom-drenched sections
to minimal and shimmering to aggressive rhythms that sound like
a pounding string section, Eternal Jewel is some of the strongest
material yet from darsombra. The packaging for this release features
letter-pressed metallic silver ink on thick black gatefold sleeve
(printed by Portland's Stumptown Printers.) The two inner pockets
contain the disc on one side and two new stunning art pieces from
artist/package designer Stephen Kasner on the opposite side. |

Decimation Boulevard
- Put your Hand in Fire
The debut solo outing for Tradd Sanderson (famed "Noise Choker"
for Cream Abdul Babar) is a six track "Fuck You" of acrid electronics,
throbbing drones, gunshot rhythms, and eerie soundscapes. Drawing
from influences as diverse as Skinny Puppy, The Melvins, and late-70's
horror films, DB concocts a new recipe all its own. The resulting
cacophony is uneasy listening at its finest: sonically overdriven,
surprisingly nuanced, and entirely captivating. And this guy is
so much prettier than you, so you may as well just shoot yourself
in the face. The score... Decimation Blvd: 1, You: zilch. |

Destructo Swarmbots
- The Mountain EP
A 3" CD packaged in a standard jewel-case, "The Mountain EP"
finds DESTRUCTO SWARMBOTS exploring a more delicate and subtle
space than previous releases. The 2 man guitar and bass team,
known for it's abrasive sonic attacks, take their layers of manipulated
dissonance and situate them in subtle ambient landscapes. The
tracks range from "36 beautiful songs" which plays like an condensed
and intensified version of Fripp and Eno's "An Index of Metals."
to the somber "saving grace on an 8 hour connection" which finds
the group delving into more traditional melodic structures. |

Destructo Swarmbots
- Clear Light
Destructo Swarmbots has carved a unique niche for themselves
over the past 4 years. Their live shows consist of chaotic walls
of white noise, improvised textures and battered instruments.
Their recordings are delicate, at times meditative, washes of
ambience constructed from countless piles of tortured sounds.
Influenced heavily by 200+ needle-dropped, out of print psyche
records, "Clear Light" is their strongest effort yet and the next
step on their journey to artistic isolation.

Dimentianon - Hossanas
Novus Ordo Seclurum
I got a copy of the Dimentianion 4 song demo not to long ago
and really, really dug it. So, I was stoked to hear this disc
and it did not disappoint. Dimentianon play a nice mix of Black
and death metal with a bit of melody thrown in for good measure.
These guys definitely know what they are doing and they do it
well! Released by Non Compos Mentis Records. |

Edwige - Play The
Game Or Leave The Bed (Swedish Import)
Collaboration project between Sewer Election (Sweden), The Rita
(Canada) and Mania (US). Filthy harsh noise brutality dedicated
to the much beloved actress Edwige Fenech. A furious and intense
assault of feedback and maniacal vocal abuse. Feels like having
your face dragged in miles of shit. 2 tracks, 8 minutes! From

Kiko C. Esseiva - Sous
les etoiles (Swiss Import)
The first release in four years (following "Manufracture") from
Kiko C. Esseiva’s, comes to us courtesy of the awesome Swiss label
Hinterzimmer. The electro-acoustic/musique conrète compositions
Esseiva has constructed during the past years are brilliant soundpieces
that remind one of Luc Ferraris electro-acoustic works but also
the very narrative nature of some older Nurse With Wound albums.
"Sous Les Etoiles" goes even a step further than Esseiva’s debut
'Musiques pour haut-parleurs’, the tracks being audibly held together
by leitmotifs, making it one big opus instead of being just a
collection of tracks. Packaged in a Stumptown chipboard 4-panel
gatefold and released by one of our favorite labels, Switzerland's
Hinterzimmer, who also has releases available from RM74, Herpes
O DeLuxe, and Ralf Wehowsky. |

Extinction - Down Below
the Fog (UK Import)
I can't seem to get enough black metal these days and for a reason,
there's so much of it and so much of it is good. Extinction are
a killer UK outfit. This is a remixed and reissued demo from 2001,
but as many of you know, some of the best black metal releases
were in fact demo's at one time. This is no exception. Check it
out. Thanks to the UK's Todestrieb Records for hooking us up with
these. |

Genghis Tron - Dead
Mountain Mouth
The first full-length from GT and the much anticipated follow-up
to their awesome debut EP. This is way more metal than "Cloak
of Love." The electro beats and blips are still in place, just
intermingled with sampled live drums to make the sound much more
organic overall. This will easily be on a few top-ten lists for
2006 and Hamilton's guitar riffage will make you want to spend
more time with all of your old speed metal albums! CD by Crucial
Blast, gatefold LP by Lovepump United! |
